New York is not for sale - neither are democracies all over the world.
Die Wahl von Zohran Mamdani gibt Hoffnung. In der reichsten Stadt des reichsten Landes gewinnt ein sozialistischer Außenseiter mit einer Graswurzelbewegung gegen das Kapital, weil die arbeitende Bevölkerung sich das Leben nicht mehr leisten kann und die grotesken Ungleichheiten nicht mehr ertragen will. Bezahlbare Mieten und Kinderbetreuung sowie kostenlose, zuverlässige und schnelle Busse, das wünschen sich die Menschen in der Stadt, dort wie hier.
Die Wahl gibt auch deswegen Hoffnung, weil entgrenzter, neoliberaler Kapitalismus und der allgemeine Rechtsruck die zurzeit größten Feinde von effektivem Klimaschutz sind.
Hoffen wir, dass die Strahlkraft des mitreißenden und authentischen Wahlkampfs von Zohran Mamdani nicht an den Grenzen New Yorks haltmacht.
Keine Freiheit ohne Gleichheit!
